Art Work Display Options???

Abs comes home from church each Sunday and Wednesday with at least two sheets of art work that she made in bible class.  We’ve run out of magnets and fridge space.

I think I’d like to “display” her paintings on her color block wall, but I’m not sure how to do that.  Any ideas?  What do you do with your kids’ art?

    Lori-
We have memory boxes for each of our girls (which are actually large rubbermaid tubs!). I file ALL of their papers in a certain place in my closet, then every other month or so I go through them. I grouped them by age done and then by grade in school when they were old enough. I keep my favorites of anything they wrote or drew independantly and anything that really expressed what they were into at that age. I also keep all the basic school concept papers like spelling words, sight words, reading lists and such to refer back to when the next sister is ready to review. All of that goes into the tub and everything else I throw away! The girls have certain drawers in their rooms for the papers that are special to them (that I haven’t chosen to save in their memory box). When their drawer is full, they have to go through them and decide what to keep (which I then add to the memory box) and what to throw away. I also have posterboard size folders for their large pieces of artwork that I keep in my closet. I found picture frames at Target (which would work well on Abigail’s color block wall) that were specifically for kid’s papers and artwork. They have a slot on the back to just slide papers in and out very easily so rotating was no big deal. They were about $20 each. I hope this gives you some ideas!

I know someonw who displays the kids artwork until a new one comes in and then she takes a picture of it and at the end of the year she makes a photo book (snapfish etc.) to keep. May be more expensive or time consuming than what you would want, but great way to cut down on the paperwork that stacks up.

@ Kerry- Thanks for sharing what you do. I think I will for sure how a “Keepsake Tub” for each of the girls. I guess I just needed some validation, too, that some things can be thrown away. Thanks!

@ MeMe- I think I will do that, too. Maybe scan the paper crafts and take pictures of the bigger items. Thanks!

@ Rachel- Abi has found her art in the trash and proclaimed, “Hey, what is my panda drawing doing in the trash can!?” So, yeah. I think I’ll keep her artwork in a big tub and display a few. But I did also want to hear from other moms that “it’s okay” to throw stuff in the trash.

I’m all for throwing stuff away after awhile :) Gretchen also has found it in the trash (or even realized it was missing from its original display spot), so I just told her that we had to make room for her new picture. Amazingly, she was fine with that! I love some of these ideas, though! Isn’t the digital age great?!

@Lucy- Thanks so much. Yes, we painted it ourselves. I did all the calculations and measurements. Jonathan helped me put the painters tape up, and then, he and our friends painted it. It was fun. If I ever post about the measurements, etc, I’ll let you know.
